Poor economic conditions in SA cause job losses

With the latest announcement from Telkom regarding the retrenchment of nearly 3,000 employees, the mining industry has also warned that they will be following the same route.

Glencore and Merafe are also retrenching due to the poor economy and the extremely expensive electricity.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that about 1,000 jobs have been compromised, of which 660 are at the Rustenburg plant.

The announcement makes the list of larger institutions starting retrenchments longer, and financial experts say it is the beginning of an ever-growing list, which could cause an alarmingly high unemployment rate.

The retrenchments are directly linked to the decline in business due to the poor economic situation in which South Africa finds itself, and the poor power supply is also directly linked to the situation.

3000 Telkom employees face unemployment after telecommunications company decides to lay off a third of its workforce

In a letter sent to unions on Wednesday, the telecommunications company says the decline in voice calls and landline data (ADSL), as well as “operational inefficiencies” are the main reasons why so many employees have become redundant.

The first of two rounds of retrenchments is at OpenServe, as well as information technology and consumer services. It is envisaged that these employees will leave Telkom’s service by the end of April this year.

OpenServe is Telkom’s division that provides wholesale services. It’s also its largest division, with 7,899 employees. Telkom says OpenServe’s operating structure is set up to support fixed-line services, as well as a large part of its consumer division.

The second round of retrenchments is at Telkom’s corporate division, where 310 people work. It is anticipated that this round will be completed by August.

De Lille reveals over 3,000 Public Works employees do business with department and 300 of those employees have their own companies

Patricia De Lille says more needs to be done to ensure people who work for the state don’t do business with the department

Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille has revealed more than 3,700 Public Works employees are doing business with the department.

She said 300 of those employees have their own companies and, in some instances, they had not declared the conflict of interest to the department.

The latest shocking revelations come as the Public Works Department investigates irregular expenditure relating to three state funerals that cost taxpayers a whopping R76 million.

It’s alleged a service provider inflated invoices for the funerals of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, former minister Zola Skweyiya and former chief of state protocol Billy Modise.

De Lille said more needed to be done to ensure people who work for the state don’t do business with the department.

Eskom is now clearly lying, obfuscating and playing with words after it came to light that they are planning to pay out R1, 8 billion in bonuses by saying that it is 13th cheques, not bonuses.

Take into consideration that it was Nersa – National Energy Regulator of South Africa – that called it bonuses in court papers, which is obviously statements made under oath.

Does Eskom now wants us to believe them over Nersa?
Eskom is now playing word and mind games with us by saying that it is 13th cheques, not bonuses . They also say that not all employees are entitled to these 13th cheques. That is where the lie alarm is going off and red flags are going up. What kind of employer does not give a uniform salary structure to its employees? Eskom also says. that employees can choose themselves if they want their total salary package to be divided into 12 or 13 cheques

So if we follow what Eskom has lied, we can then logically conclude that if an employee choose to have 13 pay packages per year and still gets an amount only intended for some employees, but not all, that amount only due for some is in fact a 14th cheque then.

Even if you are the president of SA you are not above the law! – Ramaphosa faces possible Labour Court action for retrenching farm staff

The ANC’s president is not above the law, and his so-called cases of dismissing 22 of his 46 farm workers could land him in the Labor Court. Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed the farm workers in his service, and used the excuse that it was a business decision because foot-and-mouth disease could threaten his cattle herd. No one has yet been able to explain what the illness has to do with his staff’s dismissal, and now unions apparently want to drag their president to the Labor Court.

The farm workers’ union, Fawu, is apparently at the forefront and has threatened to take President Cyril Ramaphosa to task over allegations that he retrenched over half of his Ntaba Nyoni farm staff, in October. According to the union they are protecting their members against “unlawful” retrenchment, but whether the union has the courage to act against its president will learn the time, political analysts say. SAA: More unions want to strike after Gordhan’s attempt at wage and severance dispute fails

In support of Numsa’s strike, and in opposition to the view of ANC minister Pravin Gordhan, more unions have indicated that they will join the strike.

The circumstances in which SAA currently finds itself have left the state-controlled entity in unsustainable status, and the entry of Pravin Gordhan has increased the bitterness and power building on both sides.

Gordhan’s attempt to settle the dispute over wages and retrenchments failed, thereby extending the strike, which would mean millions of Rand per day to losses for the already bankrupt entity.

There are apparently insufficient funds to pay the staff at the end of November, and the huge debt burden will not come to an end without a radical intervention.

True to their actions, the unions once again help push the entity further into the abyss with their unrealistic wage demands.

Another leeching SEO sinks – 3000 Prasa employees possibly without work after the wasteful expenditures carried out by ANC cadres

Like almost all other state entities, Prasa seems to be tumbling as well, with the possibility that 3,000 security workers will be retrenched to balance their financial situation.

Prasa had to cancel numerous security contracts, which was trailed by the cancellation of various maintenance and repairs contracts.

With the large number of cancellations, it’s evident that the good times of lavish spending are over for now, economists say.
Serious concerns now exist about the safety of Prasa’s services, with far less security, trains and vehicles not serviced or repaired as the country begins to approach the economic precipice.

Kruger National Park a world-renowned tourist attraction, could be brought to a standstill by disgruntled workers over unresolved wage disputes

Hundreds of SANParks workers are planning a second strike over unresolved wage disputes, not only at the Kruger Gate, but also nationwide, on September 20,2019.

The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers’ (Nupsaw) spokesman, Kagiso Makoe, said the union would embark on a national shutdown of SANParks facilities – on behalf of SANParks employees – and that they will be joined by the Health and Other Service Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa), which is the majority trade union at SANParks.

Makoe confirmed that they requested a salary adjustment of 11,5 per cent. He said this is market-related, and they also want to standardise working hours to 40 hours per week, and 160 hours per month.

He confirmed that the planned strike will involve rangers, field workers, administrators and cleaners at SANParks. Earlier this year workers embarked on a similar strike following wage disputes.

Tighter measures put in place to accelerate transformation – whites now become target of ANC regime

The government announced through the Minister of Labor, Thulas Nxesi, that “tough” measures will now be put in place so that radical transformation in the workplace can take place faster.

New legislation will be introduced to compel employees to transform otherwise they will be punished. Workers and activists will apparently ensure that transformation takes place, says Tabea Kabinde on behalf of the Employment Equity Commission.

The presumption exists that whites will be the major target against which discrimination is being committed, and economists believe it will downgrade the country’s bankruptcy like Zimbabwe.
