Gangsterism and cutting off your nose to spite your face, seems to be a recurring theme in #TheAfricanWay: Amsterdam in Mpumalanga has instituted its own internal electricity revolving power cuts, of 5 hours per day, and the Mayor refuses to speak English at community feedback meetings.

The Mkhondo (Piet Retief) municipality serving Amsterdam in Mpumalanga has now also instituted “internal” load shedding on top of Eskom’s own load shedding. The community is in uproar over an additional 5 hours per day load shedding, on top of the scheduled Eskom load shedding. Giel Coetzer, a businessman in town says his business is at a standstill and everyone’s food and meat is rotting in their fridges. The local mayor, Vusi Motha, was supposed to address a multiracial meeting of both black and white residents last week, but he and other officials arrived an hour and a half late. Farm attack, man hospitalized after violent assault, by unknown number of attackers, Mpumalanga

A farm attack took place on the night of 17 November 2019, in Carolina near Ermelo, in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. The man was assisting his father working on a vehicle on their farm when they were attacked by an unknown number of attackers. The man suffered serious injuries during the assault.

The man was admitted to hospital for urgent attention. There is no other information available at this stage. Police are investigating. There have been no arrests.

Livestock actions banned in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo following outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease – consumers can prepare themselves for some hefty price increases for meat products

TAU SA is shocked after the announcement that livestock auctions in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West have been suspended until further notification by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development. This announcement follows after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the Molemole district of Limpopo.

“This is a big blow to the livestock and game farmers in the country, who are already being forced to their knees by the drought,” says Mr. Henk van de Graaf, the regional chairman of TAU SA Norht. “The sale of herds was the only remaining solution for farmers who no longer have food for their animals and now this way of escape is also removed.”

TAU SA realizes that serious action must now be taken to prevent the highly contagious disease but they do not believe that suspending auctions will solve the problem. Rather, the government must ensure that the measures originally put in place must be strictly adhered to an

How does it feel when the tables are turned? Thieves hit home of national police commissioner Khehla Sitole

Thieves have made off with two TV sets from national police commissioner Khehla Sitole’s Mpumalanga home, SAPS confirmed on Monday.

Spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the items were stolen by criminals who were “purely opportunistic”.

The commissioner’s house is under construction and the work was near completion when the theft occurred last Saturday while the General was attending a summit in Cape Town, Naidoo said.

Nothing else was stolen from the house.

News24 understands that there was no sign of forced entry onto the premises.

Investigations are underway.

Not safe for tourists in SA – Israeli woman gang-raped while on holiday in Mpumalanga

An Israeli tourist was gang-raped while on holiday in Mpumalanga at the weekend, police said on Monday.

Two of the woman’s companions were robbed during the ordeal, which took place at their holiday accommodation.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said on Monday that officers were still on the hunt for four men who attacked the three tourists at a Graskop lodge.

He said the gang attacked the woman and the couple. The men demanded that they take off their clothes.

“The men raped the woman and also robbed the three of their personal belongings before fleeing the scene,” Hlathi said.

No arrests have been made.

Now taxpayers must suffer for maladministration and corrupted Govan Mbeki Municipality – Taps run dry in Bethal after municipality fails to pay R87.7m water bill

The taps ran dry in Bethal, Mpumalanga, in December when Rand Water Board reduced water pressure by 40% for non-payment of an R87.7-million back-bill owed by the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

More than half the town is reckoned to be without water.

Residents are furious because they have paid their water bills, and want to know what the municipality has done with the money. Many suspect corruption is at the root of the problem.

Last Wednesday students at the Jim van Tonder School in Bethal were sent home because there was no water for showering, toilets and drinking. The town’s abattoir has also shut down. Hennie Rademeyer runs an ice factory in the town and he has had to shut his business down because he cannot get water.

A Farmer, Sarel du Plessis are facing murder charge after shooting boy for “stealing litchis”, and now the ‘vultures’ will decent on him!!

Sarel du Plessis has appeared in court, facing murder and assault charges after he allegedly shot a teenager he suspected of stealing his litchis.

A farmer in Mpumalanga has handed himself over to the authorities after he allegedly shot and killed 18-year-old Anele Ziko for “stealing litchis” from his farm in Nkomazi.

The incident is reported to have happened last week. Tonga District Police Spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi told The Citizen that a case of murder and grievous bodily harm had been opened up against the farmer, who has been named as Sarel du Plessis.

Nkosi went on to explain how the fateful incident played out. Ziko was apparently at the farm with two of his friends – when they were discovered, du Plessis shot his victim in the back and managed to assault the other one, with the third child managing to escape:
